You can ride a bike up to 125cc on UK roads.

Under the following conditions:

You must ride with L plates.

You are not allowed to carry a pillion passenger.

You are restricted to bikes with a power output of up to 11kW and an engine size of no more than 125cc.

You are not allowed to ride on motorways.

The CBT certificate is valid for 2 years.

The Category A Licence (DAS)

An A licence allows you to:

Take off your L plates.

Carry a pillion passenger.

You can ride a bike of any engine size and power output.

You are allowed to ride on motorways.

To get your category A licence you must:
